HomeStream
Dir. Giulia Gandini. 2019.
Homestream is an independent ob doc following a woman, Lily, rough sleeping in London. It has featured on both Now This Poltics and Real Stories, accumulating over a million views across platforms.
The intent was to facilitate Lily in telling her own story, allowing her to present her own narrative free if the usual trappings of documentary. Editing the film became a balance of preserving the story Lily wanted to tell with creating an engaging narrative for the audience. Though the initial instinct of both the director and I was to focus on Lily's day to day struggle, we soon came to realise that it was the story of her and Nick, her partner, that she really wished to tell. By leaning into this sweet yet ultimately tragic romance, a compelling story of daily struggle took shape.
